Invitation

Dear Sir or Madam,

On behalf of the members of the Groupe d’économie solidaire du Québec and the Grupo de economia solidaria de Perù, I would like to extend to you our warmest greetings.

For several years now, our collective has been working around the world on implementing projects and sharing knowledge in the field of social economy and the economy of solidarity. We are involved with self-managed, community-owned initiatives (cooperatives or non-profit organizations, fair trade, women’s community organizations, etc.) that put into practice the business values we believe in.

Following the first International Symposium on the Globalization of Solidarity held in July 1997 in Peru, the Québec delegation was approached to organize a second meeting on the globalization of solidarity. We have agreed to do so. This second international gathering will focus on three main objectives:

  1. Going beyond the micro-economic level and expanding the venues and scope of our action.

  2. Using our strategic position to help bring together the different elements of the economy of solidarity and the social economy worldwide in order to strengthen the movement from both an economic and a political standpoint (as a means for socio-economic development and as a socio-political issue).

  3. More strongly affirming the solidarity that exists between populations in the societies of both the North and the South.

Our reasons for organizing this conference are explained in the "Solicitation Document" appended herein.

We invite you to participate in this international gathering in Québec City from April 17 to 22, 2001.

Since funding is limited, we hope that our guests from the North will cover their own travel and registrations costs. We will try to cover the travel costs of our guests from the South.
